Mile 8.8 by Marius Lehene
Untitled, 2019, oil on canvas, 62x82in
Screens or images acting as screens for other images have been, over the last few years, features of my work. I am not sure I know exactly what this means or why am I drawn to it, but once I felt this gravitational pull, I speculated it has something to do with my immigrant condition. However, this simultaneity of perspectives, the difficulty in establishing what is a feature/difference and what is background/sameness, and an awareness of the made-up character of any interpretation (and, maybe, of the made-up character of the interpreting-self) keeps me interested in this approach.
